The way we imagine our future is heavily influenced by current narratives (stories, products, services) and their hidden or embedded point-of-views. From sci-fi to futuristic design, these narratives influence the way we bridge our current reality and near future scenarios.
Imagination of Things, with support and collaboration from Baltan Laboratories, is embarking on a journey to research and develop a tool/device/game/toolkit/mixer to encourage and inspire groups to inhabit their own imagination, remix broken futures, and to explore new thoughtful territories (alternative, hypothetical, speculative, critical).
In this workshop we invite people to join us in this experience — a collaborative design process that uses fiction as a toolset for innovation. Together we will navigate future uncertainty and push beyond quotidian problem solving methods to create problem setting, inventing concepts to unlock a story of what could be.
Our research starts with this question: How can we better exercise ownership of our imagination when inventing, designing, developing long-term visions & near-futures scenarios?
After co-creating a fictional world, we end our session with conceptual prototypes that can open conversations about what’s next and hopefully inspire a different approach to challenges faced by the participants in their practice.
