Evgeny Morozov is one of the best informed critics of cyber-utopianism of our time. In his books and articles, and his keynote as well, Morozov comments on the political and social implications of technology. Although he initially made a name as a cyber-optimist, Morozov is now rather skeptical about the impact of digital technologies.

Our society is at a crossroads: smart technology transforms our world, making many aspects of our lives more convenient and efficient. But as these technologies influence our lives on a daily basis, they may have an unprecedented impact on how our society is structured. Does the same apply to economic mechanisms? If economy, like technology, is not law of nature but rather a man-made construction, do we also have the power to change these systems ourselves?

Evgeny Morozov grew up in former Soviet republic Belarus, where he became fascinated by the way technology could open up authoritarian societies. Morozov is a contributing editor for independent journal The New Republic and is the author of ‘The Net Delusion: The Dark Side of Internet Freedom’ and ‘To Save Everything, Click Here: The Folly of Technological Solutionism’.
