De-Formance Live
De-Formance explores the relationship between design and movement through performance.
De-Formance is a project that investigates the connection between design and movement and the integration of performed narrative into the designed object. By tracking muscle use with a wireless sensor, a series of choreographed movement sequences become the data input for a series of costumes, developed using a custom software and produced at the TextielLab, Tilburg. The shape of the costumes and effect of the textile are direct results of the captured data. Through this process, an ephemeral narrative is captured in a tangible design, influencing the evolution of continued movement. In this live performance, the dancers continue the evolution of movement beginning with references from the De-Formance film. Movements will be tracked and displayed live in coordination with the De-Formance software. An accompanying narrative film will immediately follow the live performance.
